The Marfa Sessions: A Sonic Portrait

September 27, 2008–February 28, 2009 Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, Texas

The Marfa Sessions amplified various layers of history, geography and natural phenomena specific to Marfa, Texas and its environs.

About the Exhibitions
A two-year long investigation into the history of the town and its local folklore allowed us to research beyond its famous art world status as the home to Donald Judd. Sonic interventions as well as silent sound works were installed throughout parks, fields, ranches, librariy, billboards, abandoned areas and the radio waves. Several artists were commissioned to produce new work: Simparch, Nina Katchadourian, Dario Robleto, Deborah Stratman and Steve Badgett, Kaffe Matthews, To orient visitors, Ballroom Marfa was designed as a desert visitor center offering maps, pertinent information, sound / reading stations and lounge areas.
